Search Engine friendly Translation

A website translation is always an exciting challenge since translating website content requires a variety of skills. Apart from delivering an accurate and eloquently phrased translation the translator is often asked to identify the relevant keywords/key phrases that make sense as search terms in the language translated into and will be picked up by search engines. These keywords then need to be integrated into the translation while still reflecting the sense of the original website text.

And this was my task when I was assigned the English to German translation of the website of the lovely country house hotel, Cortija Valverde, in sunny Andalucía, Spain. To come up with a translation that captures the “feel” of the source text while adapting the English texts to a German readership I had not only to use my skills as a translator and keyword finder but also a lot of creativity.

This translation assignment, that also included translating Alt Tags and Meta Tags, was very enjoyable work since my client, the hotel owner, was very pleasant to work with and together we always arrived at solutions for necessary text changes or adaptations in the translation.

In addition, I learned a lot about the rural Spanish countryside and was invited to spend my holiday in Cortijo Valverde!
